Colossus was founded in 2021 by leaders with operational experience at the National Security Agency, U.S. Cyber Command, and U.S. Pacific Command. After our defense careers, we built and led technology programs inside commercial enterprises — learning firsthand where the mental models diverge between defense and commercial work, and where they converge.
What stood out was the gap. Commercial security and technology programs were frequently under-engineered for the actual threats they faced, while simultaneously over-indexed on compliance theater. The rigor that kept intelligence-community systems running was entirely absent from most firms advising enterprises.
